Wheelchair Footplate Grip Pad, Silicone
Improve foot stability and comfort with this high-grip silicone wheelchair footplate pad, designed to reduce foot slip and improve confidence during everyday use.
Made from durable, flexible silicone rubber, this grip pad is suitable for plastic or aluminium footplates and can be cut down to size for a precise fit.

Fixing method
- Requires silicone RTV adhesive (not supplied)
- A compatible product is Granville GV0233 Instant Gasket (Clear) or equivalent neutral-cure RTV silicone — available on Amazon.
- DO NOT try to use bathroom/kitchen silicone sealant to stick this down — it’s not the same as RTV silicone
Fitting Guide
Tip: This is best fitted in the evening so the wheelchair can be left unused overnight while the adhesive cures.
- Remove any existing grip or adhesive residue from the footplate.
- Clean the footplate thoroughly, ensuring it is free from dust and grease.
- Isopropyl alcohol is recommended for best results (A small 100ml bottle should be plenty — also available on Amazon).
- Trim the silicone grip pad to size if required.
- Apply silicone RTV adhesive to the back of the grip pad, ensuring full coverage
right to the edges.- Rubber gloves are recommended.
- A plastic spatula or a small piece of thick cardboard works well for spreading the adhesive evenly.
- Position the grip pad on the footplate and press firmly into place.
- Add weight (for example, a couple of heavy books) to maintain pressure while the adhesive sets.
Curing time
- Initial skin formation: approx. 10–15 minutes
- Leave weighted and undisturbed for at least 12 hours
- Full cure: allow 24 hours before using the wheelchair
Optional (recommended): Once the pad is in place, apply a small bead of silicone adhesive around the edge of the grip pad. This helps prevent edge lift caused by shoe movement and increases long-term durability.
Notes
- Silicone RTV adhesive provides a flexible bond, ideal for vibration and daily foot movement.
- Not suitable for use with superglue, epoxy, or contact adhesives.
